A social aspect to software?

My co-worker and good friend Donnie showed me this article today that talks about how Researchers aim to make Internet bandwidth a global currency.
While reading this article, Donnie made a good point;
It’s a free market approach to developing digital identities online, that you buy and sell with…amongst other social aspects. If you think about it, buying and selling is social. There needs to be a level of trust which has to be earned, but how do you tie that to the identity and freely move across the net? Even more interesting is how do you remain anonymous, or is it even possible?
There are so many things in the works today that is radically changing software as we know it.
