As of 14:02 GMT (10:02 a.m. EDT), the eBay Inc owned company said on its Web site that it had linked the issue to a software problem, but did not elaborate. It expected to resolve the problem within 12 to 24 hours.
The problem occurred due to a deficiency in an algorithm within Skype networking software. The number of users affected appears to be unknown. For these users, voice, chat, and voicemail services are effectively offline.
This is the first major outage for Skype in years. It’s really surprising how often this doesn’t happen.
